Clavicula classic, Scapula SP and Scapula F are retiring!

After over 10 years of production we will send our Clavicula classic into retirement – a product which has set milestones.

Our Clavicula SE is a worthy successor with an even lower weight.
For the MTB versions we offer the Clavicula M³ as an adaptable alternative solution.

Likewise after over 10 years we have stopped the production of Scapula SP and Scapula F.
As a substitute for these products comes a further development to meet today’s requirements: the Scapula CT with 1 ¼″ lower headset.

We thank all our customers who enabled such a long-lasting product life to these components and we are sure that the new enhanced solutions will have a large circle of friends for a long time, too.

3T Cycling Srl (3T) and THM Carbones GmbH (THM) are to join forces

Today the companies signed an agreement for 3T, based in Italy, to purchase all shares of German based THM from its founder Thomas Mertin.

The arrangement will see THM continue to focus on making its world-leading components in Germany, while 3T will ensure those products can reach the end consumer anywhere in the world more easily. Furthermore, 3T will provide THM with greater resources to develop new products. THM’s technical team will also be involved in 3T’s new product development.

THM founder Thomas Mertin says: “This is a great opportunity for THM. The agreement with 3T gives us a global distribution network to expand our brand. THM has a clear roadmap to deliver top-notch products, manufactured in Germany. With 3T’ backing and commercial strength, we will be able to focus even more on the technical side and leave sales and distribution to the experts at 3T.”

A first comparison puts the new Clavicula SE at the forefront among its competitors.

Indeed our Clavicula SE, now finally available, has passed the first stress test with flying colours. Setting new standards with a stiffness to weight ratio of 3.54, it obtains the best ranking in a top-class competition with a complete system weighing just 494.8 grams (crank plus bearings, chain rings and chain ring bolts).

This result shows that THM-Carbones adhere steadfast to their philosophy of offering products meeting the highest quality standards only. Clavicula sine exceptione – Clavicula without limitation

Fibula gets best reviews

Among other in the tour 11/2012: …,Brakes, crank sets and fork come all from the German carbon specialist THM whose competence in lightweight construction enjoys a global reputation. Quite rightly: Whilst brakes and cranks match the functional quality of large series parts, the fork is simply sensational. Never before there was a fork to receive highest marks for both comfort and lateral stiffness – and that with a weight of 283 grams only!"

Or in the big brake test in the tour 04/2012:

Tour April 2012: “The lightest brake kit saves more than 100 grams compared to the lightest large-scale production brake from SRAM Red. … THM, the German specialist in lightweight construction, uses laborious engineering procedures to turn carbon, aluminum and titanium to calipers with a weight of just 140 grams. … Everyone who likes this design can bolt this flyweight component without concern on his bike: The THM brake ensures perfect deceleration and allows finely metered braking. Ingenious are also the different leverage ratios for the front and rear side, with the front brake creating more braking power.”

Comfort fork for road racing

Comfort becomes a more and more important factor in road cycling. Indeed, why should you get out of the saddle totally stiff after two hours of cycling whilst actually you would like to continue to ride just a few more hours?

Load caused by an aluminium or carbon fibre star fork is enormous as even the smallest road unevenness is directly transmitted to joints, vertebrae and muscles.

Well aware of these problems we have developed for road racing bikes the world’s first sprung fork without further mechanical parts. This patented system consists of two-piece fork blades and unique lamella springs which enormously increase comfort and at the same time ensure consistent performance.

A first study revealed very good damping values as compared to rigid forks. Your riding feel remains direct and precise in spite of the damping system. Among other things this is owing to a very high lateral stiffness generated by the especially conceived lamella springs. Such forks can weigh less than about 380 grams and are quite competitive compared to conventional rigid forks.

This fork is still in the test phase and will not be available in commerce for the time being.

New Clavicula Tool Available!

tl_files/content/produkte/clavicula/zubehoer/Crank-Tools 001.jpg tl_files/content/produkte/clavicula/zubehoer/Crank-Tools 020.jpg

THM presents a new tool for an optimal installation of Clavicula M³. This practical  three-in-one tool is composed of a socket wrench for fitting the Clavicula cups with the correct torque. The second function is given by a lockring tool allowing the aluminium spider of Clavicula M³ MTB to be replaced with the greatest of ease. Finally, the tool set is completed the THM adjusting tool which helps setting the bearing clearance and eases compliance with the prescribed torque when tightening the Clavicula M³ setting screw. All three tools can be plugged together for practical storing. The tool set or each separate tool are available as of now.

”4 less than 6” – THM setting new standards on Stevens Comet SL 5.0

Tour 11 / 2012:

Less than 6 kg!!! – Four ultra-light racing bikes in comparison:

"...Indeed a sensation which was not to be expected: It was Stevens with Comet to offer the frame set with the best technology and the lightest bike for testing. The company established in Hamburg owes this success to lightweight construction Guru Thomas Mertin from THM who supplied fork, brakes and cranks for the test bike. With his 283 grams light fork exclusively manufactured for the Comet, Mertin resolves the squaring of the circle: So far it has been the case that forks can achieve top measured values for either comfort or lateral stiffness only. The Comet fork is the first to do away with this contradiction.

"... To reach the breath-taking weight of 5.1 kg, the developers of Hamburg dug deep into their bag of engineering tricks. Brakes, crank sets and fork come all from the German carbon specialist THM whose competence in lightweight construction enjoys a global reputation. Quite rightly: Whilst brakes and cranks match the functional quality of large series parts, the fork is simply sensational. Never before there was a fork to receive highest marks for both comfort and lateral stiffness – and that with a weight of 283 grams only!"

Eurobike 2012

Once again the time has arrived…

People of the bicycle industry get together once a year at the world’s biggest bicycle fair, Eurobike in Friedrichshafen. As a matter of course we were also there to present our new products at the new stand of THM-Carbones and Schmolke Carbon.

First of all we would like to thank Sabine Spitz for her visit to our stand. At the Olympic Games in London she won a silver medal with Clavicula.

Congratulations again!!!

Our new stand was well attended at any time and there was a great interest in our new Scapula CT fork and the new MTB Clavicula M³. There were also the companies HaeroCarbon, Bike ahead composites and A2J to present their lightweight products under the motto “THM + Schmolke & friends“.

A lot of work had to be done, but we also had very much fun and are looking forward to 2013.

Clavicula now also available with chainrings!

As of now THM offers you the option of ordering the Clavicula fitted with chainrings made by the company Praxis Works. After extensive testing we are absolutely convinced of the quality of these chainrings. They are cold-forged from aluminium which makes them considerably stiffer than CNC worked chainrings. Perfectly tuned shifting ramps ensure a very comfortable switching behaviour. We have all current options for racing and mountain bikes in the programme and most of them are immediately available from THM. If you have any query please do not hesitate to contact us.

First pictures of Scapula CT

Now it’s available! After a long development time THM is glad to present you a new fork model with 1 ¼  headset below (tapered).

With this geometry the new fork is slightly superior even to our excellent Scapula SP.

Specifications are convincing: By creating an extremely high lateral stiffness (55 N/mm) we have succeeded in building a fork ensuring outstanding driving comfort.

The triangular structure with 60 N/mm longitudinal stiffness gives perceptible comfort by relieving the muscles on uneven ground and saves human resources for more important tasks.

The low weight of the fork is self-evident for a THM product. Only 275 g with 200 mm shaft length is a substantial contribution to saving energy when on a mountain track.

Pay a visit to us and to the Scapula CT at Eurobike in hall A2-205.
